The Ilulissat City Museum is a local history museum located in Ilulissat, North Greenland.

The Ilulissat City Museum opened its’ doors on April 22nd, 1973. Before that, it was a college for teachers called ‘Ajoqersuivissuaq’, meaning ‘A place to be taught’ in Greenlandic.

The museum harbors a variety of permanent exhibitions on the first floor. The exhibitions give visitors an insight into prehistoric life, urban history, and fishing practices in the area. The work and photographs of Jette Bang and Knud Rasmussen are also exhibited on the first floor.

An exhibition about the Greenlandic national clothing as well as the changing exhibitions on a variety of different topics are located on the second floor.

The area around the museum is also used as an Open Air Museum, where visitors can see a variety of traditional Greenlandic equipment and tools.

The opening hours are:

October 1st – March 31st : Monday-Friday 12:00-16:00
April 1st – June 1st : Monday-Saturday 10:00-16:00
June 1st – September 30th : Monday-Sunday 10:00-17:00
