2024 has been an eventful year. We have witnessed impressive developments in the tourism industry and welcomed many guests to our country. We have also inaugurated a new international airport and passed the country’s first tourism law—milestones that bring both new opportunities and challenges. I know these developments place great demands on those of you working in tourism.
Every day, it is you in the profession who create the framework for the guests’ experiences. You meet them, share the stories, guide them, and offer them a glimpse of what Greenland is—and can be. Whether in villages, cities, on the water, or in the mountains, it’s you who create the memories our guests take home. Your efforts make a big difference for both the visitors and our community. Thank you for that.
At Visit Greenland, we recognize that it is our nature, culture, and people that make our country an attractive travel destination. That’s why we work to develop tourism in collaboration with you—responsibly and in a way that aligns with Greenland’s values and society. Tourism is not an end in itself but a means to contribute to positive societal development. It’s about creating value not only for our guests but also for the local communities that shape these experiences. When we succeed in that, tourism becomes a shared strength that benefits everyone—now and in the future.
With development and change come questions and a natural need for dialogue. To strengthen the dialogue between tourism and local communities, we have relaunched Nunarput Nuan this year—a platform that provides the population insights into what tourism means for us all. Here, we share facts, data, and stories to foster a common understanding of how tourism impacts and contributes to our society. By thinking long-term, we can ensure that tourism creates value for both the local communities and those working in the industry. We look forward to continuing this conversation and collaborating in the years to come, so that together, we can create a tourism industry that makes sense and makes a difference.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Best regards
