The travel fair is organised by NATA – North Atlantic Tourism Associations, the West Nordic tourism association between the Faroe Islands, Iceland and Greenland. The Faroe Islands are hosting the fair this year, and this week brings together tourism operators and travel agents from around the world.
On Monday morning, Visit Greenland held a workshop for the country’s regional tourist boards, the so-called Destination Management Organizations (DMOs), with the aim of strengthening collaboration on tourism development and increasing cohesion across the country. The programme included topics such as the Tourism Act, the Tourism Sector Plan and the national branding of Greenland.
On Monday evening, Visit Greenland invited the Greenland tourism industry to a traditional side event. The event was live-streamed, so that operators unable to attend in person could watch online. On the programme was Minister of Business, Trade, Mineral Resources, Justice and Gender Equality, Naaja H. Nathanielsen, who presented the upcoming Tourism Act and Tourism Sector Plan proposal. Furthermore, Air Greenland, Icelandair and Greenland Airports presented their plans for service and route development and how the opening of the new airports is expected to affect future travel patterns.
Finally, the Greenland Tourism Award 2024 winner was announced as a tribute to a tourism operator who has made a special effort in responsible tourism in Greenland. The award is a collaboration between Visit Greenland and Air Greenland. (A separate press release has been issued.)
The official Vestnorden programme ends on Wednesday, after which Visit Greenland and Air Greenland will arrange post-tours in Greenland for selected tour operators, travel agents and journalists. The aim is to give participants a first-hand experience of Greenlandic destinations and local operators so they can better understand and promote them to their customers. The tour participants are also selected to match their customer base with the local tourism operators and their products. This year’s post-tour is to Sisimiut and Nuuk and is organised and held in close collaboration with the regional tourist boards and the tourism industry.
Vestnorden is a B2B travel fair that focuses on attracting tourists who match the West Nordic destinations and contribute positively to economically, socially and environmentally sustainable development. The organisers have carefully screened travel agents and media representatives to ensure the right match.
The fair aims to create the right setting for the participants to meet each other through booked meetings, thereby creating new business agreements and valuable relationships between international travel agents and West Nordic tourism operators.
The North Atlantic Tourism Association is the organisation behind the West Nordic Fair and aims to promote collaboration in the West Nordic tourism industry. The hosting rotates between Visit Faroe Islands, Visit Iceland and Visit Greenland.
