The winner of Greenland Tourism Award 2021 has been found

The winner of Greenland Tourism award 2021 is now decided and a tourism operator from the Disko Bay Region wins

Published on January 3, 2022

Greenland Tourism Award is a recognition of a tourism operator that excels and the industry itself has been part of nominating the winner. “In that way the industry itself is part of recognizing the good efforts and part of creating momentum for the tourism industry in Greenland”, says CEO of Air Greenland Jacob Nitter.

”It is a salute to the role models that show how entrepreneurship can make a difference to the local society as well as to the happy customers”, says Christian Wennecke CEO of Innovation Greenland.

Greenland Tourism Award builds on the sustainability principle and the winner was selected with an emphasis on the following keywords: quality, safety, environment and nature, local involvement and innovation. Particularly innovation was emphasized this year due to COVID-19.

“Sustainability in the tourism industry is also about how you as a company can embrace change and make it through a crisis”, says deputy director at Visit Greenland Mads Skifte.

The Greenland Tourism Award precisely celebrates an operator that adapts and embraces change within these areas. The expert panel is thus proud to select and present:

Nivé and Frank Diskobay tours, winner of Greenland Tourism Award 2021

Diskobay Tours by Frank Larsen and Nivé Heilmann has excelled in their outstanding performance in adventure tourism since 2014, where quality, security and not least service is paramount. Their loyalty towards the Greenlandic way of using and being in nature influences accessibility to attractions such as Glacier adventures, dog sledding, hiking, sailing, and accommodation in tents/cabins in Qasigiannguit. They have contributed to developing tourism in the Disko Bay Region significantly.

“We were very surprised and proud to receive the message that Diskobay Tours is selected to receive this year’s Tourism Award. It is lovely that our work to develop tourism in Qasigiannguit and in Disco Bay is noticed. It has been important for us to contribute to spreading tourism and to ensure local anchoring of the development. That is why we would like to use this opportunity to give thanks for all the support and backing we have had in Qasigiannguit. Without the backing from amongst others dog mushers and guides it would not have been possible to go, where we are now. Thank you very much to those that nominated us and to those that back us daily.”

The expert panel consisting of Visit Greenland, Air Greenland and Innovation Greenland emphasizes that Greenland Tourism Award is here to stay and it is a unique opportunity to highlight the development and strengths within the Greenlandic tourism industry.

As something very special this year, the Committee Group has chosen to salute a “Peoples Choice Award” for an operator that has excelled in getting many votes from the industry for their ability to provide a very good service. The choice here is:

“I am surprised and very honored that a category called People’s Choice Award has been created just to salute me and my work. Moreover, I am glad to hear that I provide a good service for my customers. Without them, I would not be where I am today. Also many thanks to Visit Greenland and the Committee Group for letting me win this award.”
