”What we get from the TMT-events is first and foremost the chance to forge a bond in the industry, so we can set some joint goals for our industry that we all work towards. This enables us to position us more strongly in the global market,” Says Bo Lings from Sirius Greenland in Sisimiut.
At the conference that was organized by Visit Greenland and Air Greenland it became very clear that the tourism industry needs to build good networks. It is essential to create development, establish shared goals and not the least share knowledge in order to make it easier for new operators to start, build and develop healthy business models and products.
”I believe that we have created something together here that we can build on. It is so cool to see the young participants that really want to and have an interest, and then there are the slightly older ones with experience. It means so much,” said Naasu Lund from Riding Greenland in Narsaq.

Another objective of the conference was to find out how to ensure a sustainable tourism development with focus on growth, innovation and responsible tourism. That is why it was also important to gather input from the more than 130 participants, input that was transformed into a number of recommendations for the politicians. They are now handed over to the Minister of Industry and Energy Aqqalu Jerimiassen.
”It has been a really good seminar and there has been really good support from the industry and the organizations around it. Some really interesting and important topics were brought up and they have amounted to some really good recommendations for our politicians,” commented Bo Lings from Sirius Greenland in Sisimiut.
– ”We are pleased to present and pass on the 11 recommendations on behalf of the Greenlandic tourism industry. The recommendations are brought about by a wide field of public as well as private destination organizations, including many that work with tourism every day. Thus the recommendations are a direct result of the challenges and possibilities our tourism operators experience today,” says Julia Pars, managing director of Visit Greenland, in a press release.
The organizers had invited several international inspirational speakers such as the tourism consulting company Bannikin Travel & Tourism and Keilir University that educates adventure guides in Iceland. But they were not only there to give good advice, it was also with the intent to create new networks across national borders.
”What I take away with me from TMT is the great focus on a growth focused mindset in Greenland. They are very committed to the environment and the preservation of nature and Iceland can really learn a lot from that,” Arnar Hafsteinsson from Keilir University that educates adventure guides in Iceland.
