The former Deputy Chair of the company’s Board of Directors and current Acting CEO, Anne Nivíka Grødem, will take up her position as CEO of Visit Greenland on 1 August 2022. Anne Nivíka comes from a job as deputy manager at Sermersooq Business, where she worked for several years in business and destination development. She was born and raised in Ilulissat and has many years of experience as an entrepreneur and project manager in Greenland.
“Visit Greenland has a crucial task in ensuring the framework for a robust and solid tourism industry that is ready to face a world of increased demands and requirements. Therefore, the board wants increased focus on tourism development with a local starting point in the form of local ownership,” says Anette Grønkjær Lings, Chair of Visit Greenland, and continues:
“In addition to marketing Greenland internationally as a destination and attracting visitors to the country, it’s essential that Visit Greenland focuses on collaboration with the regional DMOs and the tourism industry, which ties the country together and ensures that tourism benefits all of Greenland. Anne Nivíka has a deep understanding of this task, as she has worked under the auspices of regional government and can see and understand things from the inside. An invaluable competence needed to strengthen the sustainable development of tourism in Greenland,” concludes Anette Grønkjær Lings.
As the new CEO, Anne Nivíka will be in charge of Visit Greenland’s 2021-2024 strategy, “Towards more tourism”, with an increased focus on local anchoring and local ownership.
“As a society, we are facing significant infrastructural changes that offer us unique opportunities to develop tourism in our country. I am determined that this development happens as an integral and valuable part of our societal development. To ensure that tourism is not disconnected from the real life that is lived here, as it is precisely the local life that our guests dream of experiencing and becoming part of for a period of time,” says Anne Nivíka Grødem and continues:
“Greenland should be a great place to live and a lovely place to visit. Therefore, my priority is that we, as a national visit organisation, create the best framework for destinations to develop sustainably and that our marketing efforts target visitors with the same values. In this way, we can together ensure that tourism benefits the whole of Greenland,” concludes Anne Nivíka Grødem.
