Photo database
Our photo database, at photos.visitgreenland.com, is a free collection of high-quality .jpeg images, short films and raw clips accessible for download and licensed under ‘Visit Greenland License Agreement’.
If you would like to download images, these are the steps:
- Send an e-mail to libris@visitgreenland.com requesting to become a user. Describe the purpose for which you want to use the images.
- We will reply to your email and kindly ask you to read the Visit Greenland License Agreement terms, and then ask you to reply and confirm that you have read and understood the terms and conditions.
- Once we have received your confirmation e-mail, we will create an account for you and send you a link to where you can choose your password. Then you can log in and start downloading images.
Licensing
All of Visit Greenland’s photos and video clips are licensed under the Visit Greenland License Agreement (VGLA).
By downloading or sharing media, end users enter into an agreement with Visit Greenland about licensing for the use of media.
All media in the database is subject to copyright law, and end users downloading or sharing images or videos should familiarize themselves with the specific licence terms and observe proper crediting on all works used. Read about proper crediting at vg.gl/guidel.
Photo Usage and Restrictions
Those who wish to use Visit Greenland’s photos may only use images from Visit Greenland’s photo database, not directly from the Visit Greenland website.
If the photos on our website do not have ‘Visit Greenland’ at the end of the credit, you must contact the photo provider directly to request permission. You are not allowed to use these photos without obtaining permission.
Crediting
Website Photo Crediting
Currently, on Visit Greenland’s website, we generally indicate the photographer’s name or the photo provider on every photo. The standard format for photo crediting is “Photo by [Photographer’s name or company name or photo provider].” When a photo is from Visit Greenland’s photo database, “Visit Greenland” should be added after the photographer’s name, e.g. Photo by Aningaaq R Carlsen – Visit Greenland
Not all photos come from our photo database; some are provided directly by local and international operators, content creators, or article writers. In these cases, “Visit Greenland” is not added at the end of the credit, e.g. Photo by Hotel Arctic.
Regardless of language, photo credits are always provided in English.
On the website, photo credits are displayed in the following ways:
- Right under each photo.
- On mouse-over.
- When the photo is clicked.
Social Media Photo Crediting
For Social Media (Facebook, Instagram), photo credits are provided in two ways:
- At the end of the post text.
- Directly on the photo.
Depending on the format, we use either of the above options. We mainly credit the photographer(s) at the end of the caption/descriptive text accompanying the photo. If there are several photographers, we make it clear who is the photographer of which photo. When posting carousels with texts – as well as stories – we add the photographer directly on the bottom of the photo along with a VG logo.
Newsletter Photo Crediting
In newsletters, the photographer’s name is placed right below the photo, accompanied by a camera icon.
