COVID-19 has turned 2020 upside down, especially when it comes to the locals’ summer vacation. Should you experience a new place in Greenland, prioritise to meet family and friends or take the risk of travelling abroad? With the launch of the new website (Greenlandic and Danish only) and campaign Visit Greenland and the local tourism companies aims to inspire you to find the next adventure in your own country.

“Greenland is wonderful, safe, large and diverse. There are many  undiscovered adventures that we who live here, still do not know about. With Nunarput Nuan we want to put focus on how easily you can do a staycation and still get new, world class experiences – and even together with friends and family you haven’t seen for a long time”, says Julia Pars, Director of Visit Greenland.

Time to do your bucket list

There are many good reasons to spend your vacation locally in Greenland. You will get a deeper connection with your home country, you will help local businesses and jobs to survive and will have unique experiences with your loved ones. And maybe the biggest reason is that the time to fulfill your bucket list dream has never been better.

“I don’t know anyone, who hasn’t got something on their bucket list to fill. Now is the time to do it, when COVID-19 makes us stay at home during vacation.” explains Julia Pars, who adds that Greenland in the later years has been listed several times as one of the most sought after destinations in the world.

How to use the website

Nunarputnuan.gl is built up in a way, which makes it easy for you to find information so you can book a staycation. On the front page you will find a tribute song to Greenland, ideas for activities and trips as well as a feed with Instagram posts tagged #nunarputnuan. Remember to share your pictures with us and others to get featured by using #nunarputnuan. You can also follow @visitgreenland across platforms to keep up to date on competitions, give-aways and challenges.

If you dive deeper into the site you can find an overview of available package tours. A package tour is a fixed set of products like transport, experiences and accommodation made by a travel agency. This way the travel agency can provide customers for local businesses and give you a fantastic trip – and often cheaper than if you plan it yourself.

If you are still in doubt about where to go, then fear not. The local destination organisations of Greenland has made welcome videos for you that explains why you should visit their region. They look forward to welcoming you.

Thank you to all our partners

Visit Greenland would like to thank all partners who have contributed to Nunarput Nuan. Thanks goes especially to the regional tourism organisations and local companies, who quickly set up new products. Additionally we thank the relevant partners who helped transform the concept of “feriefrirejser”, which is an employer paid holiday available often in Greenland, so they can be used for domestic travel and accommodation. This will make it economically possible for more families to spend their vacation in their home country.

Info box for companies

Are you a local tourism company who has made a package trip that is not on nunarputnuan.gl? Please write stine@visitgreenland.com with information about the package, activities, price and length, so it can be published. All package advertisements on nunarputnuan.gl is free.

Companies can also use the campaign in their marketing of staycation products for locals through logos, graphics and other tools that are available for free in the toolkit section
