Press release: Reykjavik, 16 October 2023
As many as 43 Greenlandic companies from the tourism industry are participating in order to develop and strengthen business partnerships with each other and international business partners.
The travel trade show is organised by NATA – North Atlantic Tourism Association, the West-Nordic tourism association between The Faroe Islands, Iceland and Greenland. Iceland hosts the trade show this year where tourism operators meet travel agencies from all over the world this week.
TARGETED MARKETING OF GREENLAND
As a part of the official Vestnorden programme, Visit Greenland and Air Greenland have hosted a pre-tour at Greenland in during the week leading up to the travel trade show. The purpose of this tour has been to give select travel agencies and journalists a first-hand experience of Greenlandic destinations and local operators so that they can understand and promote them better to their customers.
The tour participants have been selected so that their customer base matches the local tour operators and their products. The pre-tour this year headed to Aasiaat, Qeqertarsuaq and Ilulissat, and it is organised and held in close co-operation with the regional tourism organisations and the tourism sector.
GREENLAND EVENING
This year, Visit Greenland invites all Vestnorden participants who are interested in Greenland to a side event Monday evening. Here, the six regional tourism organisations in Greenland will give the attendees an idea of the many unique experiences which our country has to offer. In addition to this, Air Greenland, Icelandair and Kalaallit Airports will inform the audience about the plans for flights and the expectations for how to get to Greenland now and in the future.
“We are experiencing a lot of interest in forming partnerships with the Greenlandic operators. That is why this evening will help us give existing as well as potential international business partners the opportunity of getting to know Greenland better while at the same time providing a deeper understanding of our versatility, infrastructure and culture. This way, we strengthen the possibilities of developing valuable business connections and we build a bridge between the international agents and the local operators”, says Visit Greenland director, Anne Nivíka Grødem.
In connection with the event, the winner of the Greenland Tourism Award 2023 will also be announced as a tribute to a tourism operator who has made a special sustainability effort in the tourism sector in Greenland. The Greenland Tourism Award is presented in a co-operation between Visit Greenland and Air Greenland.
Vestnorden is a B2B (business to business) travel trade show which focuses on attracting tourists matching the West-Nordic destinations and which financially, socially and environmentally contributes to sustainable development. Travel agencies as well as media people have thus been screened meticulously by the organisers to ensure the right match.
The purpose of the trade show is to create the proper framework for the participants where they can book meetings with each other and, in that way, enter into new business agreements as well as create valuable relations between the international travel agencies and the West-Nordic tourism operators.
The North Atlantic Tourism Association is the organisation behind the Vestnorden travel trade show and its purpose is to promote co-operation in the West-Nordic tourism industry. The hosting of the travel trade show rotates between Visit Faroe Islands, Visit Iceland and Visit Greenland.
