#2 Webinar summary of Preparing for Post-COVID travel to Greenland

As Greenland opens up for post-COVID travel, the industry is now working to reshift its way of thinking in order to deal with the tourism halt - despite the strict entry requirements enforced by the government.

On the 9th June, Visit Greenland held a webinar titled “Preparing for Post-COVID travel to Greenland” where speakers Natasha Martin (Good Tourism) forecasted current scenarios for reopening including financial ramifications and Tanny Por (Visit Greenland) clarified some entry requirements for tourism operators.

sNatasha’s presentation covers:

  • Forecasting of 3 scenarios: best, mid and worse case scenarios where each scenario implies major losses in arrivals and revenue. 
    • In the best case alone, one can expect a decline of 65% in arrivals and loss of DKK 301M 
    • In the worst case scenario, one can expect a decline of 90% in arrivals and loss of revenue of DKK 404.5M. 
  • 8 key trends and how to apply it to the Greenlandic context
  • Quick learnings from China who has already opened up
  • Some practical tips for what the tour operator can be doing right now

  • Outline of entry during Phase 1: dependent upon Denmark’s rate of infection, quarantine and retesting. 
  • Who may enter Greenland: The same countries outlined in Denmark’s reopening strategy Denmark, Faroe Islands, Iceland, Germany, Norway
  • Which flight routes are open: Denmark and Iceland 
  • The understanding of key terms such as quarantine, transportation versus tourism, wilderness quarantine.
