Hotel Søma Aasiaat, Courses and Conferences

The refurbished hotel in Aasiaat has 46 rooms. 10 of these are brand new and are in a new extension. 11 further rooms have been completely renovated.

Aasiaat was founded by whalers in the middle of the 18th century, and the beautiful archipelago continues to attract whales, so there are good chances of spotting them when you choose Hotel Søma Aasiaat as the venue for a meeting or conference. Hotel Søma Aasiaat is located immediately adjacent to the harbour, with its plethora of fishing boats and dinghies. From the terrace you can observe life at the harbour.

The rooms are classified with 3 stars, and we’d like to draw particular attention to our “standard plus” rooms. There are a total of 36 rooms at the hostel.

Conference room 1 is large and bright with a sea view and can accommodate 25 people. Conference room 2 and the associated group rooms are new, bright and delicious, built in 2015 and decorated with designer furniture. Conference room 2 overlooks the water and seats 14 people. All the conference rooms have a private terrace.

Regardless of whether you’re holding a meeting or a conference, our staff will do their very best to create the perfect settings. The conference room has a projector, flip-over chart, whiteboard, Wi-Fi and surround sound. All the facilities are new and fully live up to modern multimedia requirements.

Tours on land and on the water can be organised, but you can also strike out on your own to explore the town, which has a population of some 3,000 inhabitants – including a large number of young people from throughout Disko Bay who’re studying at the town’s sixth-form college. Aasiaat’s museum is housed in the former residence of the colonial administrator. The museum has an exhibition of Inuit history and contains an important local history collection. If you get the chance, then don’t miss out on a dogsled trip during the winter, whilst the long summer days can be spent on a whale safari in the “land of a thousand islands”.
